You'll have to forgive me if you found my question is silly :)
1-
When creating the connection between the base and asterisk you used the word old cell phone (without a service or with a service)
Do the base have to have a service of some sort from a cell provider or not (e.g: sim card with minutes to make or receive calls from a local/international service provider etc..)
2-
Is it a did that's being allocated to the base station when you say anyone can call you thru that (bstation).
3-
To relay the calls if we are not using a cell provider on the base station how do we connect to the gsm/cdma network or we relaying thru something like remote repeater systems (amateur radio)?

No problem at all, no
No problem at all, no question is silly!
1) the cellphone connected to the asterisk machine via datacable and audiocable need to have a valid simcard, so it can receive (or make) the calls. When the call is received (or made), then asterisk manage it as any other call (eg. asterisk can terminate it through Voip)
2) the cellphone connected via cables to the asterisk machine act as a channel, eg. it interface asterisk with the gsm network. You can call into asterisk calling that cellphone, or you can be called by asterisk (for eg. a SIP call comes into asterisk and ask to be bridged with you through an outgoing cellphone-celliax call)
3) for the cellphone connected to the asterisk box it is necessary to have a valid SIM and be on the coverage of the cell provider of that SIM. If not, it can't make or receive calls, so you can't use it to communicate with or through asterisk. Without a valid SIM and coverage of cell provider, a cellphone is completely useless.
I'm not sure if I have answered your questions.
Please, feel free to ask again and more.
We're here for answering ;-).
