Celliax on Car Kits

Hi Giovanni

Whilst seeming to be silent for a while I have been researching and acquiring old cell phone car kit bits. It seems to me a good way to interface between a cellphone and the CellIAX pc, as some car kits have audio in / out, and data, (+antennae option if required), a cell phone holder and a way to keep the cell phone going in (power) perpetuity! (As well as allowing for easy separate phone use if required!) A 12V mains power supply would be required. I have yet to prove it works, but seems no reason why not, other than from possible mains hum, and I thought others might like to consider doing similar. I'll report more when it is tested. Incidentally I did search the celliax.org site for "Car" and got some surprising results, you might like to check this out Giovanni.

Based on my experience to date I am wondering if the serial interfaces are actually more universal option in terms of OS compatibility? No doubt in time this will be less of an issue as more USB compatible systems come to run CellIAX. Thanks for the new astlinux, I have yet to run up, I too am looking forward to the Trixbox 2.2.4 instructions. Wish I could be at the conference, sounds fantastic!

Kindest regards

good idea!

Welcome back!
Yes, the car kit can be a an easy way to connect the cellphone to the pc: you leave the car kit constantly connected and you can put out/in the cellphone in the car kit.

Actually, I try to use cellphones that have separate connectors for data-audio-power, so I normally leave the cellphones constantly connected to the PC, via datacable e audiocable, and constantly connected to the power supply. BTW, I've found no main hum problem, so probably also the carkit for phones that have no separate connectors will have no problems.

Celliax supports the serial ports in themselves, the USB thingy is just a special case of serial port. You can use a real serial port (eg the old rs232), and probably it will works better too. It's just that real serial ports are vanishing on new PCs.

Wait a couple of days for astlinux, a new one is coming ;-).

Ciao for now, hope to see you at the conference!

Giovanni
